Migration of production portals

by Kees Hink last modified 2008-06-25 15:12

Last Friday, all production portals hosted by Goldmund, Wyldebeast & Wunderliebe have been migrated to new servers. Kim Chee Leong comments on the changes.

"We have two new servers, with the exact same configuration. The old servers were performing at the limit of their capacity. The new machines are are Xeon Quad Cores, each with 4Gb of memory.
Our clients now have their portal on each of these machines. The idea of this redundance is that if either machine would break, the other machine can take over within a second. A site visitor wouldn't notice anything.
A second advantage of this dual-machine setup that performance is even better. We also improved caching: pages will be cached for all site visitors that are not logged in. This also benefits performance."
